Storm Intercept Summary

A Moderate risk of severe thunderstorms was forecasted on this day, by the Storm Prediction Center.  However, that risk did not verify in my opinion.  Dad and I went on our second storm chase together, and his first since his retirement.  I want to thank him for learning how to use the laptop computer well enough, in order to navigate us to the storms that did finally develop.  We saw several funnel clouds southwest of Sterling, Kansas, and we just about got stuck in the mud, as we tried to reposition ourselves to the updraft of the supercell.  We stayed with this low precipitation supercell storm, and we were rewarded with a weak tornado to the northwest of Nickerson, Kansas.  We got to within a 1/2 mile of the cirulation on the ground, and I did get some video and photographs of it.  The tornado did not produce a condensation funnel, so it appeared to be invisible to the naked eye.  It was still considered to be a tornado, since there was circulation and debris(dirt) at the ground level.  Today was also one of my first experiences with what most chasers call the chaser circus.  This is when two or three hundred chasers all converge on the same severe thunderstorm, since that storm was the only one in the area.
