Storm Intercept Summary

Wow, it is a long drive across Kansas, but once again it was well worth the trip.  I know, you are saying why would you drive across Kansas for a slight risk of severe thunderstorms.  Well, it is June, and the South Central United States severe weather season will be coming to an end for another year.  I made the trek to the area between Liberal, Kansas and Garden City, Kansas when severe storms developed.  This is a pretty sweet area in which to chase storms, because of the wide open views.  That is if you can stand the constant hum of irrigation pumps running in the background.  I was treated to an awesome photogenic wall cloud which later put down a tornado Northwest of Deerfield, Kansas.  I was not very close to the tornado at all, but I could see a funnel cloud from my location.  This tornado was later rated an EF0 mainly because it did not cause any damage to anything and it was very shortlived.  A short time later, the severe storm gusted out, and I was treated to one of the most awesome shelf clouds I have ever seen.  The only downside of this chase day is having to drive home across Kansas in heavy downpouring rain.
